The Best Form of Exercise
Swimming is widely acknowledged to be the best overall form of exercise for maintaining a good level of general fitness and well being.
However, if your swim technique is poor, you can actually do more harm than good. Bad style can aggravate old injuries and cause neck, shoulder and back pain.
The Shaw Method of Swimming™ combines principals from the Alexander Technique with modern swimming instruction to help you discover a sense of calm and balance in the water as well as leaving you free to have fun in the pool (to find out more about the Shaw Method visit this website).
These lessons are good for beginners and experienced alike.
Making it Easy and Relaxing

Most lessons are offered on a one-to-one basis (two can share).

Kathy Davison
Kathy is an enthusiastic and frequent swimmer. In addition to Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) Teacher qualifications, Kathy is a registered instructor of the Shaw Method of Swimming™.
She has been teaching swimming since 1998, and trained in 1999 with Steven and Limor Shaw, founders of the Shaw Method. Her discovery of the Shaw Method of swimming immediately affected both her own swimming and how she taught it - much for the better.
As a Shaw Method swimmer she first experienced the joy of observing and exploring the feelings of being in the water. And through this approach she was able, for the first time, to sustain her swimming and enjoy the rhythm of the strokes. Integrating her breathing began to feel totally natural.
She now swims most days for her own enjoyment and well-being, and happily gets out of bed in the mornings for her pre-breakfast swim. It always leaves her feeling more energised and supple.
She has had the pleasure of teaching many people to discover their own joy of the water, either learning to swim for the first time, or to change their style to one with improved ease, alignment and grace.
The principles of the Alexander Technique are more obvious when applied in the pool. The buoyancy water offers gives greater feedback than land-based activities. Small changes can have a significant effect. Through the Shaw Method swimmers grow taller in the water, and discover how to take out effort and move more easily through the water.
Kathy strongly recommends this approach to swimming.
